What to Expect at Your First Visit to Innovative Medical Associates

A first appointment here looks different from a rushed 12-minute office visit. Here is exactly what happens, what to bring, and how long to plan for.

Most people who come to us have already been through the system. They have seen four or five specialists, collected a folder of normal test results, and been told that nothing is wrong — while still feeling unwell every day. If that describes you, the first thing worth knowing is that your first visit here is built around listening, not triage.

Before You Arrive

When you contact our office, we schedule a complimentary in-office consultation. There is no charge for this visit and no obligation to begin treatment. Its purpose is simple: to determine whether what we do is a good fit for what you are dealing with. If it is not, we will tell you, and we will point you toward something that is.

  • Recent bloodwork or imaging, even if you were told it was normal
  • A list of every medication and supplement, including doses
  • Names and contact information for your other treating providers
  • A short written timeline of when symptoms started and what changed
  • Any prior diagnoses, even ones you disagree with

That written timeline matters more than patients expect. Complex illness rarely announces itself all at once. Being able to see that fatigue started eight months after a tick bite, or that joint pain followed a viral infection, often reveals a pattern that no single lab value would.

The Consultation Itself

Plan for 45 to 60 minutes. Dr. Molly Fantasia will review your history, your records, and your goals — and will ask questions that other offices may not have. How do you sleep? What happens when you stand up quickly? What did your gut do before all this started? These are not small talk. They are how we map the systems involved.

The most useful diagnostic tool in complex illness is an unhurried conversation. Everything else confirms or refutes what that conversation suggests.

What Happens Next

You will leave with a clear sense of direction. That may mean targeted lab work to test a specific hypothesis, a proposed protocol such as medical hydration therapy, or a referral for imaging. What you will not get is a generic supplement list handed to everyone who walks in.

If we recommend treatment, we explain the reasoning, the expected timeline, and the cost before you commit to anything. Patients dealing with autoimmune conditions, chronic pain, or chronic Lyme often need several visits before the full picture comes together, and we will say so upfront rather than promising a single-visit fix.

Your first consultation is free

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does the first appointment take?
Plan for 45 to 60 minutes. Complex cases with extensive records sometimes run longer, and we do not cut the visit short to stay on schedule.
Is the first consultation really free?
Yes. The initial in-office consultation is complimentary and carries no obligation to begin treatment. Charges only apply once you and Dr. Fantasia agree on a plan.
Do I need a referral from my primary care doctor?
No referral is required. Many patients come to us directly. We are happy to coordinate with your existing providers, and we encourage it.
What if I do not have recent lab work?
That is fine. Bring whatever you have. If we need additional testing, we will order exactly what is needed to answer a specific clinical question rather than running a broad panel by default.
